After a serious crash abruptly ended a young Ernesto Colnago's professional cycling career, he started building frames and opened his own shop. He would go on to work with some of the 20th century's greatest cyclists, including Fausto Coppi and Eddy Merckx.
Colnago designed the Super with low head tubes and compact top tubes, creating a more aerodynamic position for speed and sharp handling. This was a sharp departure from other bikes of the time and his lightweight stiff frame became the new racing standard. Made of Columbus SL tubing (on sizes up to and including 57cm, SP tubing on 58cm and larger) the Super was in production for over 30 years and found fame with Eddy Merckx and the Molteni Team.
